This is the flow your friend will see, minus the name step. Pick your questions, mark the answers you'd give, then send the link and see how close they come.

The honest version

Knowing someone is a skill, not a feeling

Most people overestimate how well they know their friends. Not by a little either. Ask someone to predict a close friend's answer to ten small questions and the average lands around six.

That's not a character flaw. Friendship runs on shared history, and shared history is mostly big events: the trip, the breakup, the wedding. Small daily habits don't make it into the story, so nobody learns them.

A quiz fixes that in ten minutes. It's specific enough to be wrong in public, which is the only way anyone learns anything.

Setup

How to run it

1

You answer first. Ten questions, your real answers. This is the key.

2

Send one link. Your friend opens it, types a name, answers the same ten.

3

Compare. The score appears immediately. You get the breakdown, they get theirs.

Reading the score

What a six out of ten means

Six out of ten is normal, and it's not bad. It means you know how they behave in public and you're guessing about the rest.

The four you missed are usually the interesting ones: how they handle being wrong, what they do when they're overwhelmed, who they call first. Those are the questions worth asking out loud afterwards.

Bands

What each score range looks like

The app uses the same five bands.

90–100% Same Brain You picked the same answers almost every time. Slightly scary.
70–89% Solid Friend You know the big stuff and most of the small stuff.
50–69% Getting Warm Half of this you nailed. The other half needs a proper conversation.
30–49% Some Way To Go You know the headlines, not the details.
0–29% Start Again Honestly? You've been guessing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Around six out of ten. Anything above eight is unusual and usually means you've lived together or worked together.
No. The test only works if they answer cold. Show them afterwards and you'll get a much better conversation.
Yes. Take turns: they answer your quiz, then you answer theirs.
Then you both know each other equally badly, which is its own kind of friendship.
